Window Coverings & Child Safety: Did you Know?
The cords on your window coverings are the most dangerous part of a window covering for children.
It’s not something you’re probably thinking of when looking to purchase some blinds or curtains. Let’s face it, colours and styles are probably at the forefront of your mind. However, when it comes to dressing your windows safety really is a factor that you need to consider, especially if you have children.
Blinds, curtains and other window coverings can have a cord that allows one to raise, lower, open or close the blinds or curtains. Blind and curtain cords can present a strangulation hazard to children, as children can become entangled in them if they pull on them. Even with raised the cords will drop low in reach of the children. To minimise this risk, make sure that cords are kept away from children and furniture such as chairs, tables and cots aren’t placed under windows so that children don’t climb up to reach the cords. How To Choose Window Coverings: Choosing the Right Window Covering
